The purposes of the Florida SMP are to mitigate public safety hazards (e.g. on roadways, in urban and exurban areas, and in the vicinity of airports) posed by smoke, to prevent deterioration of air quality including visibility impairment in Class I areas from wildland fire emissions, and to prevent National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) violations.
