Rates of spread of wildfires were measured for different directions in various fuel types and various weather conditions in the fire seasons of 1969, 1970 and 1971. The rate of spread curves were compared with those predicted by the National Fire-Danger Rating System. The predictive models together with local weather information provide a fairly accurate prediction of rate of spread.
