The evaluation of forage quality for wild ungulates is reviewed and the amount and variability of carbohydrates, fats, protein, energy and digestibility of forage discussed. Results of in vitro digestion of 3 species palatable to moose on the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska (Betula papyrifera, Salix arbusculoides and Vaccinium vitis-idaea) are presented.
