From the text ... 'This special issue of Catena entitled 'Fire effects on soil properties' is a contribution of the most recent works related to research by scientists concerning fire and soil processes. The frequency and severity of forest fires is a widespread worldwide phenomenon. It is important to understand the effect of high intensity fires and prescribed fire as a management tool for soils. This special issue will not only contribute to a better understanding of the effects of fires on soils but will also suggest solutions for soil rehabilitation and management in terms of soil quality and forest regeneration.' © 2008 Elsevier B.V.
