Results are reported from observations on the characteristics and population dynamics of the principal climax species, Picea glauca, made in summer 1985 near Chitina. Data are presented on vegetation types (transect profiles), density of woodland (point-centred quarter technique) and growing stock (girth, ht., age in sample plots). Four stages of forest succession following fire are described, with some stands older than 200 yr.
