From the Summary: 'Helitorch burning is a complex system of organization consisting of three subsystems: (1) HELITORCH ON THE GROUND, (2) HELITORCH OVER BURNING BLOCK, and (3) MANAGEMENT OF HELITORCH BEFORE ARRIVAL AT BURN SITE AND AFTER IGNITION. In each subsystem events have been listed that could be the precursors of a helitorch accident or disaster. This analysis has identified over thirty events that could be the unnoticed precipitating root causes of accidents or disasters. Knowledge of these often times hidden patterns will be a powerful tool in the prevention of helitorch accidents and disasters.'
