This paper offers an overview of the Black Hills Fire Council, which comprises numerous wildland, urban, and rural fire and resource management organizations in the western quarter of South Dakota, northeastern Wyoming, and southeastern Montana. This interagency group has worked together on various cooperatlve projects (e.g., overhead teams, training, prescribed burning, fire prevention) for several years now. The attitude taken by the council's member agencies has greatly contributed to a cost-effective approach to wildfire management in this region of the United States.
