The determination of total tree age is usually based on ring counts of increment cores which ideally should pass through tree center. For several reasons the borer does not always "hit the pith," and it becomes necessary to estimate how many rings were missed. The pith locator described [in this note] takes much of the guesswork out of this estimate.
