The Weather Information Management System (WIMS) is a system to collect, store and manage current weather information, and to provide access to historical data. WIMS replaced the Administrative Forest Fire Information Retrieval and Management System (AFFIRMS) as the host for the National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS), incorporating both the 1978 and 1988 fuel models. WIMS allows a user to retrieve weather information by providing: (1) timely access to many weather information sources; (2) efficient tools for managing data; (3) data manipulation and display functions; and (4) interactive communications environment. Data is supplied by the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Weather Service, and the EROS Data Center in Sioux Falls, SD. A subscription service provides clients with near real-time access.
