Resource managers need the ability to predict and manage smoke movement associated with prescribed fire in the South. This funding will be used to speed completion of smoke simulation models and implement predictive models for all 13 southeastern states. We will initiate research to determine the amount of smoke that impacts local sensitive targets and what causes plumes to collapse. We will collect data to connect PM2.5 smoke concentrations with routinely observed environmental variables and to validate smoke models.
