Many state parks support natural communities that are dependent on fire for maintenance and propagation. The division manages these resources through the application of prescribed fire. The long-term goal in the fire management program is to restore and maintain fire-adapted ecosystems across the state parks system. This position is the ecological burn coordinator for the Natural Resources Program and responsible for coordinating the ecological burning program for the North Carolina State Parks System. This position will develop, and review management unit burn plans and burn prescriptions; assist and lead ecological burns; and monitor and recommend fire management strategies. The position collaborates with biologists and rangers in various regions throughout the division for training programs and multi-park, multi-disciplinary projects. Position will supervise a 4 person burn crew based out of Cliffs of the Neuse State Park.
