The USDA Forest Service’s Pacific Northwest/Alaska Regions and USDOI Bureau of Land Management’s Oregon-Washington State Office, Fire, Fuels, and Aviation Division is currently in the process of outreach to assess interest in a for a permanent, full-time GS-0401-12 Fuels Management Specialist position. The duty location for this position may be negotiated post-selection to any Forest Service location (virtual office location) within Region 6 (Oregon or Washington), and the incumbent is expected to travel 50 percent of the time. The incumbent assists the Program Manager in the development, organization and administration of the Region-wide fuels management program. The incumbent provides advice, assistance and direction to Forests to establish appropriate response to wildland fire, and coordinates with Air Quality Specialists to develop and review smoke management and air quality guidelines as they relate to planned and unplanned ignitions. The percentage of time spent on duties included in this position may fluctuate with more emphasis on operations, planning, program management, or training based on workload priorities, emphasis, and needs. Ninety (90) days of experience as a primary/rigorous firefighter or equivalent experience outside federal employment is a basic qualification requirement for this position.
