The Alaska Reference Database originated as the standalone Alaska Fire Effects Reference Database, a ProCite reference database maintained by former BLM-Alaska Fire Service Fire Ecologist Randi Jandt. It was expanded under a Joint Fire Science Program grant for the FIREHouse project (The Northwest and Alaska Fire Research Clearinghouse). It is now maintained by the Alaska Fire Science Consortium and FRAMES, and is hosted through the FRAMES Resource Catalog. The database provides a listing of fire research publications relevant to Alaska and a venue for sharing unpublished agency reports and works in progress that are not normally found in the published literature.

An inventory of particulate matter and air toxic emissions from prescribed fires in the USA for 1989
This report documents a prescribed fire emissions inventory developed using consistent methodology for each of the 50 states of the USA for calendar year 1989. Emissions of particulate matter, selected toxic compounds, and a few other carbon-containing compounds are estimated.…

Plant species which have survived fires for tens of thousands of years may not only have selected survival mechanisms, but also inherent flammable properties that contribute to the perpetuation of fire—dependent plant communities. This concept goes by beyond the commonly…

The direct seeding programme in Ontario has increasd from 80 acres in 1956 to a maximum of 11,135 acres in 1967. Seed is applied by a variety of methods including fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, snowmobiles and a variety of manual and mechanical equipment. All sites are…

Increased seed yields often result when alfalfa fields are burned in spring. The main pollinator of seed alfalfa in Alberta is the alfalfa leafcutter bee. Megachile rotundata (F.). that cuts pieces of leaves to build thimble-like cells. One hypothesis for increased seed yield is…

From the text...'Let me over-simplify (or overstate) my argument to make my point. Foresters have tended to identify only two types of fires: (1) wildfires, which are bad and should be prevented or put out expeditiously, and (2) prescribed fires, which are good and should be…

It has been nearly forty years since F. E. Clements popularized the concept that natural communities of plants and animals have properties far beyond their components. Analogies were made between the level of organization and integration in whole organisms with the organization…
