The Alaska Reference Database originated as the standalone Alaska Fire Effects Reference Database, a ProCite reference database maintained by former BLM-Alaska Fire Service Fire Ecologist Randi Jandt. It was expanded under a Joint Fire Science Program grant for the FIREHouse project (The Northwest and Alaska Fire Research Clearinghouse). It is now maintained by the Alaska Fire Science Consortium and FRAMES, and is hosted through the FRAMES Resource Catalog. The database provides a listing of fire research publications relevant to Alaska and a venue for sharing unpublished agency reports and works in progress that are not normally found in the published literature.

Fuel complexes resulting from power-saw spacing in young coastal Douglas-fir and interior lodgepole pine stands were quantitatively assessed for loading and duration of hazard. Fuel appraisal data were combined with fire weather regimes to derive fire behavior predictions for…

Thermal generation of combustible vapors has been measured up to 500°C for green Douglas-fir, ponderosa pine, and lodgepole pine foliage. The relative contributions to combustible products are given for ether, benzene-ethanol, and total extractives, as well as for holocellulose…

This paper describes a finite difference experiment to simulate the transient development of the convection column above a strip of uniform high temperature source in a stratified uniform cross flow atmosphere. The k--e model of turbulence is used and an upstream weighted scheme…

Because standard methods for computing the optimal rotation age of a forest stand assume complete knowledge of the stand value at any future time, a forest manager must treat his estimates of future value as if they were completely accurate. Minor, unpredictable fluctuations…

Every wildland fire control organization in North America relies on assistance from outside agencies during periods of extreme fire severity. In some cases interagency cooperation is formalized, as in the Northeast Forest Fire Compact or the Boise Interagency Fire Center. In…

It is often quite difficult to compare fire history studies conducted by different investigators because different terms may be used to refer to the same concept and the same term may be used to refer to different concepts. To help resolve this difficulty, an ad hoc committee…

Dendrochronology, the study of annual rings in woody plants, has developed into a useful tool for a number of different fields of study. Based on the interaction of trees and the climate, it is possible to use tree-rings as proxy data in reconstruction of past climates and river…

The National Fire-Danger Rating System (NFDRS) (Deeming and others 1972) has been updated; the revised system will be in use in l978 (Deeming and others 1977). One of the changes in the NFDRS is treatment of lightning-caused fires. A model based on physical and stochastic…
