The Alaska Reference Database originated as the standalone Alaska Fire Effects Reference Database, a ProCite reference database maintained by former BLM-Alaska Fire Service Fire Ecologist Randi Jandt. It was expanded under a Joint Fire Science Program grant for the FIREHouse project (The Northwest and Alaska Fire Research Clearinghouse). It is now maintained by the Alaska Fire Science Consortium and FRAMES, and is hosted through the FRAMES Resource Catalog. The database provides a listing of fire research publications relevant to Alaska and a venue for sharing unpublished agency reports and works in progress that are not normally found in the published literature.

Preliminary results of this study was highlighted in the December 12th, 1998 issue of the New Scientist Magazine (http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg16021643.900.html): The majority of the circumpolar region is covered by boreal forest. Boreal forest is the second largest…

Boreal forest regeneration dynamics: Modeling early forest establishment patterns in interior Alaska
Ecological processes are responsible for vegetation trajectory within the boreal forest landscape of interior Alaska. The reproductive response of boreal forest to disturbance controls vegetation trajectory. Boreal forest reproduction dynamics are influenced by both biotic and…

Of the 1.2 million acres evaluated with photo and ground plots, about 517,000 acres were forested. 33% were in high impact areas, 23.7% in moderate impact areas and 19.7% in low impact areas. Approximately 15% of the 1992 growing stock are now dead. The greatest mortality…

Preliminary findings of habitat use patterns for the Ray Mountains caribou (Rangifer tarandus) herd were determined from three years of radiotelemetry observations. Caribou calving was concentrated in open south-sloping plateaus between Mt. Tozi and the Tozitna River. Most of…

Boreal forests and woodlands comprise about 29% of the world's forest cover. About 70% of this forest is in Eurasia, mostly in the Russian Federation. Boreal forests contain about 45% of the world's growing stock and are an increasingly important part of global timber production…
