The Alaska Reference Database originated as the standalone Alaska Fire Effects Reference Database, a ProCite reference database maintained by former BLM-Alaska Fire Service Fire Ecologist Randi Jandt. It was expanded under a Joint Fire Science Program grant for the FIREHouse project (The Northwest and Alaska Fire Research Clearinghouse). It is now maintained by the Alaska Fire Science Consortium and FRAMES, and is hosted through the FRAMES Resource Catalog. The database provides a listing of fire research publications relevant to Alaska and a venue for sharing unpublished agency reports and works in progress that are not normally found in the published literature.

Webinar presented by Nick Skowronski on November 18, 2014. Canopy bulk density (CBD) is an important component of wildland fire behavior. CBD remains very difficult to quantify at even the plot level. Estimation at the stand, landscape, and beyond is even more problematic, but…

Hanes, Bourgeau-Chavez
Since Alaska adopted the CFFDRS as a fire danger rating system in the 1980's, there has been interest among Alaska fire mangers to check how the equations that compute the indices to reflect duff moisture really compare to duff moisture conditions in the field. A promising new…
