The Alaska Reference Database originated as the standalone Alaska Fire Effects Reference Database, a ProCite reference database maintained by former BLM-Alaska Fire Service Fire Ecologist Randi Jandt. It was expanded under a Joint Fire Science Program grant for the FIREHouse project (The Northwest and Alaska Fire Research Clearinghouse). It is now maintained by the Alaska Fire Science Consortium and FRAMES, and is hosted through the FRAMES Resource Catalog. The database provides a listing of fire research publications relevant to Alaska and a venue for sharing unpublished agency reports and works in progress that are not normally found in the published literature.

The Canadian Forest Fire Behavior Prediction (FBP) System is a systematic method for assessing wildland fire behavior potential. This field guide provides a simplified version of the system, presented in tabular format. It was prepared to assist field staff in making first…

This paper represents our response to the questioning by Mell et al. (2018) of our interpretation (Cruz et al. 2017) of five generalised statements or mantras commonly repeated in the wildland fire behaviour modelling literature. We provide further clarity on key subjects and…

(1)The behaviour of the August 1936 Galatea fire in the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains was reconstructed with respect to the rate of spread, frontal-fire intensity and fuel consumption, and illustrates that tree mortality, seed dispersal distance into the burn and…

Data for the behavior of 59 experimental wind-driven fires were extracted from the literature for use in determining a correlation among several variables known to influence the rate of forest fire spread. Also included in the correlation were unpublished data from six field…

Traditional wildfire detection methods are of low efficiency and cannot meet user needs, a novel method based on deep time and space features along transmission line is proposed in this paper, which uses ViBe algorithm to detect movements in videos, and extracts static deep…

We developed a new software package, burnr, for fire history analysis and plotting in the R statistical programming environment. It was developed for tree-ring fire-scar analysis, but is broadly applicable to other event analyses (e.g., avalanches, frost rings, or culturally…

Mitigating smoke impacts on human health and safety is one of the challenges that landowners and agencies face when conducting prescribed burns. Particulate matter (PM) in smoke, produced by the combustion of fuels during burning, can aggravate respiratory ailments and reduce…
