The Alaska Reference Database originated as the standalone Alaska Fire Effects Reference Database, a ProCite reference database maintained by former BLM-Alaska Fire Service Fire Ecologist Randi Jandt. It was expanded under a Joint Fire Science Program grant for the FIREHouse project (The Northwest and Alaska Fire Research Clearinghouse). It is now maintained by the Alaska Fire Science Consortium and FRAMES, and is hosted through the FRAMES Resource Catalog. The database provides a listing of fire research publications relevant to Alaska and a venue for sharing unpublished agency reports and works in progress that are not normally found in the published literature.

The effects of variations in fire intensity, frequency, and seasonality on the dynamics of four dry sclerophyll species, Banksia ericifolia, Petrophile fucifolia, B. serrata, Isopogon anemonifolius, are being investigated. These species have canopy-retained seedbanks enclosed in…

Through a review of literature, the essential role of fire in the boreal forest as a natural regulatory agent of composition and succession is discussed in terms of plants, soils, and animals. In natural, long-term cycles, the incidence of lightning-started fires on a particular…

The resprouting response of different sized Banksia oblongifolia lignotubers (genets) was followed in two field experiments. In thefirst, the density and speed of resprouting, and the growth in length of the leading shoot from each lignotuber in response to fire and to the time…

(1)The behaviour of the August 1936 Galatea fire in the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains was reconstructed with respect to the rate of spread, frontal-fire intensity and fuel consumption, and illustrates that tree mortality, seed dispersal distance into the burn and…

A study of 59 sites in the Central Yukon showed no strong correlation between plant community and time since burning, the post-fire seral communities being both site and fire-specific. Fire intervals were 33, 69, 57 and 62 years in the South Ogilvie, North Ogilvie, Eagle Plains…

The changes observed in the composition and abundance of shrubs, herbs and mosses were investigated following fire in the southern boreal forest of the Abitibi region, Quebec. Ten plots of 100m2 were sampled at each of eight sites varying in age from 26 to 230 years after fire (…
