About AFSC
The Alaska Fire Science Consortium works alongside wildfire managers and scientists to bridge the gap in boreal and arctic fire science delivery, outreach and application. We provide products and services including: seasonal workshops and trainings, webinars and videos, research primers, proposal support and collaboration, help desk service, consultation by subject matter experts, agency/leadership briefings, and more.
The AFSC is one of fifteen regional consortia supported by the Joint Fire Science Program and is part of a national fire science knowledge exchange network. We are housed at the International Arctic Research Center on the University of Alaska Fairbanks Troth Yeddha’ Campus. In Alaska, we work closely with the Alaska Wildland Fire Coordinating Group.
Primary Goals
Coordinate wildfire science delivery efforts in Alaska
Facilitate two-way communication between scientists & managers
Provide an organized central arena for delivering fire science information
Ensure that delivery & outreach is practical & evolves with management needs
