The Alaska Reference Database originated as the standalone Alaska Fire Effects Reference Database, a ProCite reference database maintained by former BLM-Alaska Fire Service Fire Ecologist Randi Jandt. It was expanded under a Joint Fire Science Program grant for the FIREHouse project (The Northwest and Alaska Fire Research Clearinghouse). It is now maintained by the Alaska Fire Science Consortium and FRAMES, and is hosted through the FRAMES Resource Catalog. The database provides a listing of fire research publications relevant to Alaska and a venue for sharing unpublished agency reports and works in progress that are not normally found in the published literature.

Plant species which have survived fires for tens of thousands of years may not only have selected survival mechanisms, but also inherent flammable properties that contribute to the perpetuation of fire—dependent plant communities. This concept goes by beyond the commonly…

Sirois, Payette
Forest regeneration in areas burned during the 1950s in northern Quebec was studied along topographic and climatic gradients, from the northern Boreal Forest to the northern Forest-Tundra. Regenerated plant communities are mostly dominated by Cladina mitis in well-drained…

A 250-year postfire plant chronosequence in well-drained sites at the northern limit of the Boreal Forest in the Grande riviere de la Baleine area, northern Quebec, was reconstructed from nine sites associated with the development of the Caldina stellaris-spruce woodland. Most…

Turner, Gardner, Dale, O'Neill
The expected pattern of disturbance propagation across a landscape was studied by using simple landscape models derived from percolation theory. The spread of disturbance was simulated as a function of the proportion of the landscape occupied by the disturbance-prone habitat and…

Prescribed fire is used to manipulate forest ecosystems to accomplish a variety of resource management objectives. To develop prescriptions that successfully achieve these objectives, managers use information from a variety of sources. These include results of scientific…
