Definition: The Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) are places where potentially flammable vegetative fuels meet or overlap with homesites.

The Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) is the line, area, or zone where structures and other human development meet or intermingle with undeveloped wildland or vegetative fuels. Describes an area within or adjacent to private and public property where mitigation actions can prevent damage or loss from wildfire. (NWCG Glossary of Wildland Fire, Dec. 2018)

The FRAMES Emissions & Smoke Portal is a partner-sponsored site providing access to information about smoke and emissions from wildland fire, including the online Smoke Management and Air Quality for Land Managers online tutorial.
The purpose of this site is to provide maps for wildland firefighting resources to build situational awareness before and while responding to wildland fires.
This site was developed to showcase the results of the JFSP-funded project "A Review of Available Economic and Financial Biomass Information and Tools for Federal Land Managers in the West."
