Job: ISER Graduate Research Assistant (Socio-Ecological) - University of Alaska Anchorage - Anchorage, AK


Graduate students will work with researchers at the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) on a variety of projects related to arctic urban and rural social-ecological systems. Student researchers may be involved in collecting, entering, and analyzing data, writing reports and contributing to project management under the direction of the PI. The positions open are based on funded research projects (see duties) and we are recruiting multiple students to work on projects. The topics of the projects vary, and applicants can indicate which research topic they are interested in when applying. The Alaska-based topics include:

  • retaining STEM teachers
  • modeling social-ecological connections
  • assessing climate-related environmental hazards
  • designing fuel treatments to reduce wildfire risk
  • building community resilience to wildfire
  • measuring sustainability for arctic cities

The methods used for these projects differ, but will include qualitative (i.e. interview, surveys, etc.) and quantitative data (i.e. GIS, modeling, basic statistics, etc.) methods.
