Soil temperature and moisture are important factors that control many ecosystem processes. However, interactions between soil thermal and hydrological processes are not adequately understood in cold regions, where the frozen soil, fire disturbance, and...
We examined T. matsutake survived in soil after forest fires in T. matsutake-produced forest in the pre-fire period and the situation of damages from forest fire in stands. We established a square plot of (50 m x 50 m) in a burned site and divided it...
The retrieval of Live Fuel Moisture Content (LFMC) over fire prone grasslands is important for fire risk and drought assessment. Radiative transfer (RT) model based inversion of measured reflectances for retrievals of LFMC offers a promising method for...
The Fungal Ribosomal Intergenic Spacer Analysis (F-RISA) was used to characterize soil fungal communities from three ecosystems of Araucaria angustifolia from Brazil: a native forest and two replanted forest ecosystems, one of them with a past history...
Detailed knowledge of factors controlling fire regime is a prerequisite for efficient fire management. We analyzed the fire selectivity of given forest vegetation classes both in terms of fire frequency and fire size for the present fire regime (1982-...
[From text] The second EastFIRE Conference, held at George Mason University, June 5-8, 2007, brought together researchers, land managers, and technicians to share information on remote sensing applications to wildland fires in the eastern states. Based...
Species composition and structure of centipede (Chilopoda) communities were studied in a sub-urban burnt forest on the Mediterranean coast near Roma, Italy. The study was carried out in two sites affected by canopy fire (complete vegetation destruction...
Measurements of the solar ultraviolet radiation in the wavelength region 295-385 nm were carried out at the Athens basin in summer 2007 and 2008 to study the influence of the air pollution, aerosols and forest fires on the UV doses reaching the ground...
Cork oak, (Quercus suber) is widely distributed in the Mediterranean region, all area subject to frequent fires. The ash produced by burning can have impacts on the soil status and water resources that can differ according to the temperature reached...
On April 6, 2020, the Fire Management Board (FMB) established the Wildland Fire Medical and Public Health Advisory Team (MPHAT) to address medical and health-related issues specific to the interagency administration of mission critical wildland fire management functions under a COVID-19 modified operating posture. The COVID-19 MPHAT is tasked with providing medical and public health expertise, advice, coordination, and collaboration with external subject matter experts and developing protocols and practices for all aspects of COVID-19 planning, prevention, and mitigation for wildland fire operations. Guidance found on this page has been issued via FMB Memorandum. They may be updated as appropriate and necessary to respond to the evolving situations and work conditions surrounding COVID-19.
With multiple agencies/entities, groups and task forces all working to find solutions for operational concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, the need for a space to share information is apparent. This forum serves as a platform to ask questions, as well as to share ideas, information, and solutions.
The leadership of the NASA Arctic-Boreal Vulnerability Experiment (ABoVE) plans to convene their 7th Science Team Meeting May 10-13, 2021, in person if possible in Fairbanksat UAF, as they originally intended in 2020. Recordings and posters from the...
AFSC is working with the NASA Arctic-Boreal Vulnerability Experiment (ABoVE) to organize a hands-on workshop on using their data and products in operational and decision-making settings. This will be a great opportunity for researchers and managers to...
