Incumbent will be a member of the Vandenberg Wildland Support Module for the U.S. Air Force Wildland Fire Branch based at Vandenberg Air Force Base, CA. The Wildland Support Module is responsible for implementing prescribed burns and responding to wildfires on Air Force property throughout the area of responsibility and the U.S.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Team Lead and to provide operational oversight and planning of wild land fire suppression/non-suppression activities and specialized expertise. The incumbent is also responsible for preparedness, prevention, prescribed burning, monitoring, hazardous fuel reduction within assigned area of responsibility. The incumbent also assists in writing and executing wildland fire management plans, prescribed burn plans, and preparedness plans.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Ecological Restoration Coordinator provides technical leadership and support to a new ‘Living with Fire’ initiative within The Nature Conservancy’s Forest Program. This new position will support strategic action and drive implementation on state, private, and federal lands within southeastern, and northcentral Minnesota, with future plans to expand state-wide. The ERC may supervise seasonal staff in completion of restoration and management activities to protect and restore fire-dependent native plant communities, including globally rare oak savannahs, and state rare mixed-pine woodland habitats. They will implement strategic plans, coordinate community support, manage contracts and implement Forest Program strategies. They will work closely with the local TNC Staff, serving as TNC Minnesota Forest Program’s fire lead to implement restoration and management on several thousand acres of private and public lands in Minnesota.
Under the supervision of the Forest Watershed Restoration Specialist, the Ecological Restoration Coordinator will support the increased use of fire as a tool for restoration across forested systems in Minnesota. This will include in-office planning, project design, and partnership engagement, as well as in-field prescribed fire activities including preparing fire lines, maintaining equipment, post-burn monitoring, and other tasks. In all prescribed fire related activities, the ERC will work closely with the Minnesota Fire Manager to ensure all best practices are followed. The ERC must have a valid driver's license.

The Prescribed Fire Training Center (PFTC) is a unique program blending maximum field prescribed burning experience with a flexible curriculum of classroom instruction on foundational topics for prescribed fire practitioners.
The PFTC is headquartered in Tallahassee, Florida. Training locations are dispersed throughout Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Attendees will travel to several remote sites during their stay to take advantage of prescribed burning and learning opportunities with a variety of agencies, fuel types, and challenges such as urban interface.
The Southeast is an ideal site for the PFTC due to the year round burning programs of several agencies, broad prescription windows, and the high level of interagency cooperation. During their 20 day tour, individuals should expect to participate in prescribed burns conducted for a variety of objectives. The wildland urban interface is a focus of PFTC, and most participants will have opportunities to conduct burns in interface situations. This variety of field experience with the different prescriptions, planning procedures, and techniques of the various agencies offers an accelerated learning opportunity for the participants.
