Hermit's Peak and Calf Canyon Fire Footprint Field Trip

Description

Sponsor: Southwest Fire Science Consortium

Who: Fire and forestry professionals, natural resource managers (agency, non-profit, landowner), and policy makers

The Hermit's Peak & Calf Canyon Fire that burned in Summer 2022, is the largest recorded fire in New Mexico's history (341,471 acres). It is important that those of us in the world of fire, forest, and emergency management learn from this incident. We'll make several stops and discuss many aspects of the fire with local staff and community members, topics will include fire dynamics, response, recovery, policy and the ongoing post-fire impacts.

To be respectful to the locals, many of whom are managing trauma as a result of the fire, we will travel together in vans to reduce unintended impacts of the tour. Therefore, no individual vehicles will be allowed.
