The Canada Wildfire February Flare Up! webinar series will focus on a different climate change topic and how they relate to wildfire.

February 3 - Fundamentals:
What is climate, and why is understanding climate important? What physical processes influence global climate? What is the difference between weather and climate?... and so much more!
Featuring: Jeremy Fyke, Coordinator, Canadian Centre for Climate Services, ECCC; and, Dave Phillips, senior climatologist for ECCC, spokesperson for the Meteorological Service of Canada, and author.
Moderated by: Brian Wiens, Managing Director of Canada Wildfire with 30+ years of service at ECCC and the Canadian Forest Service


February 10 - Historical:
Looking to the past. Learn about historical climate and fire regime perspectives, as well as historical climate data sets, including how they have been used, how they should be used, and the benefits and caveats.
Featuring: Trisha Hook, Climate Change Impact Technician, dendrochronology and forest health, Northern Forestry Centre; and, ‪Kendrick Brown, Research Scientist focused on historical climate and fire reconstructions based on sediment coring, Pacific Forestry Centre.
Moderated by: Dr. Jill Harvey, Canada Research Chair in Fire Ecology & Assistant Professor, Thompson Rivers University.
