Presenters: Dr. Laura Chasmer & Dr. Chris Hopkinson, University of Lethbridge
This webinar is part of the Canada Wildfire Webinars series.
Lidar has been used to measure vegetation structure for more than 20 years. In this talk, we will introduce the physics and technology of lidar remote sensing. We will then discuss how lidar technology can be used as a tree- to plot- to landscape- to global-scale measurement tool to quantify spatial and temporal variations in pre-fire fuels and post-fire impacts to ecosystems.
Laura Chasmer and Chris Hopkinson are professors in physical geography and remote sensing at the University of Lethbridge. Both have been coordinating and working on lidar surveys for over 20 years. Research focus areas include wildland fire fuels, ecology and ecosystem change, and hydrology, including snow and ice.
