Prescribed Fire: A Roundtable Discussion with U.S. Rep. Kim Schrier (Virtual)

Description

Prescribed fire - setting low-intensity fires to remove combustible debris from forest floors - is one of the best ways to protect our communities from wildfire and restore forest health. But the practice has been underutilized. Meanwhile, wildfire seasons grow longer and hotter, and fires grow more destructive.

It is time to fight wildfire with prescribed fire on a pace and scale large enough to be effective. Congresswoman Schrier has introduced The National Prescribed Fire Act, which establishes new funding and incentives for agencies to conduct controlled burns.

Join Congresswoman Schrier and her guests to learn more about the bill, about the science behind prescribed fire, and about how it can help in the fight against catastrophic wildfire.

We will hear from:

  • Dr. Paul Hessburg -- Research Landscape Ecologist, USFS Pacific Northwest Research Station
  • Kelly O'Brien – Fire Chief, Chelan County Fire District 3
