Webinars, Seminars and Presentations

Every year hundreds to thousands of wildfires occur in all 13 southeastern US states, threatening communities and homes. In 2017, Southern Regional Extension Forestry, the University of Georgia (UGA) Warnell School of Forestry, and the UGA Cooperative Extension started to develop a wildfire preparedness training through the popular Master Gardener (MG) program. This webinar will provide an overview of the “Preparing for Wildfires with Firescsaping” training, its plan for implementation and impact, and how you can be involved in reducing southeastern US wildfire risk. The webinar will cover various aspects of the training, including (1) the online educator’s training- interactive video presentations and support resources designed to prepare educators to teach or host the MG training- and (2) the MG Training Toolbox- canned presentations, handouts, and hands-on activities to support the day-long MG training. The speaker will demo a few of the training activities, including developing a fire-resistant plant list and creating a firescape.
