Jenks FERST Fire Educator Workshop

Description

Jenks Public Schools would like to invite you to a free, two-day workshop about the role that fire plays in Oklahoma’s ecosystems. Please feel free to come to both days or to only one day as your summer schedule permits.

Tuesday, June 4 - The first day of the workshop will include guest speakers and a trip to Jenks FERST (a long-term, study site) where, if the weather cooperates, participants will conduct small-scale, prescribed burns! The presentations/discussions will cover topics such as fire history/culture, fire ecology, the use of fire to manage land, and prescribed fire.

Wednesday, June 5 - The second day of the workshop will cover fire curriculum with lessons focused on the Cross Timbers and Tallgrass Prairie. This curriculum is being developed at the high school level, but could be easily modified for middle schoolers. Lessons cover topics related to Fire Science, Fire Ecology, and Fire Culture.

Location: Jenks High School
Address: 205 East B Street, Jenks, OK (get directions)
