Workshops, Trainings and Fieldtrips

Location

Albany Pine Bush Reserve
195 New Karner Rd #1, Albany, NY 12205

Three Northeast-Midwest Regional LANDFIRE Fuels Calibration workshops are being held (in Albany, NY, Martinsville, IN, and Milwaukee, WI) in conjunction with the USFS Region 9 risk assessment and LANDFIRE Remap. For the ongoing wildfire risk assessment led by R9, fuel calibrations need to be conducted to make sure the LANDFIRE fuels data are accurately representing the landscape. This assessment will be used at the regional level for planning, but data will also made available to any and all entities who could use it. The fuel data input to this assessment is extremely important to producing reliable fire modeling products and overall assessment results. The calibration involves reviewing and editing fire behavior fuel model assignments to each vegetation type and validating their associated fire behavior results. Attendees will also better understand how to implement the product once it is complete. In addition, feedback on fuels from these workshops will be shared back with LANDFIRE for potential incorporation into the Remap.
