We will briefly describe the changing view of regeneration ecology in western aspen, the findings underlying this changing view, and the silvicultural implications. We will discuss the traditional view of western aspen regeneration, describe field observations and genetic results that challenge some aspects of this view, and discuss the silvicultural implications for aspen regeneration and management in the western US.
