In keeping with the mission of the MPFC to promote the safe use of prescribed fire on the Michigan landscape, the workshop will feature presentations including an update on EPA air quality standards, Michigan's smoke management plan, climate change and fire interactions, Phragmites, and more. In addition, there will be a panel discussion on Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) where prescribed fire managers and representatives from Michigan fire departments will discuss the dynamics and considerations when burning in proximity to an urban environment.

Concurrent training classes will be held on the second day of the workshop including NWCG S-131 Course, prescribed fire plan writing, and a course on the Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System (CFFDRS): an S-290 supplement.
