Dr. Chris Moorman will discuss results of recent research to investigate wildlife response to prescribed fire applications in the southeastern United States. He will describe documented fire effects on a variety of taxa (e.g., woodland salamanders, shrews and mice, wild turkeys, white-tailed deer, and Bachman's sparrows) and in a variety physiographic regions (e.g., Sandhills, Southern Appalachians, and Coastal Plain). Topics of discussion will include the potential mechanisms driving wildlife response to prescribed fire and the effects of season and frequency of fire on food and cover resources.
