Scientists from UAF, Univ. Florida, and Canada will meet with fire managers and resource specialists April 29 to share results on findings from a study called Identifying Indicators of State Change and Forecasting Future Vulnerability in Alaskan Boreal Ecosystems. Funded by the DoD SERDP program and set in military training lands in interior boreal forest ecosystems and adjacent lands, the study looks at fire regimes in interior Alaska and the ecological factors that control them, including permafrost, climate, moisture, and exotic species, to model changes in vegetation we're likely to see under selected management options. Attendance is limited to the agencies' representatives, but AFSC will summarize the findings and share them with you.
