These symposia are designed to share experiences and new or changing techniques and technologies in weather and climate affecting fire, fuels, and smoke. The symposia began as a collaboration between the Society of American Foresters and the American Meteorological Society over 30 years ago. Now the American Meteorological Society administers each symposia with sponsorships from many different agencies and partnerships with other organizations. Since 2001, the JFSP has been a valued sponsor.
