Description
ANNOTATION: This report presents the findings of a study for determining the feasibility of predicting the volume of logging residue on clearcuts prior to harvesting. Data were collected from 160 clearcuts on Bureau of Land Management (U.S. Department of Interior) and National Forest (U.S. Department of Agriculture) lands in western Oregon and western Washington. Multiple regression techniques were used to develop equations relating preharvest stand and economic characteristics to measured residue volumes. The regression procedure resulted in the development of individual equations for each of four Bureau of Land Management Districts in western Oregon. Separate equations were also derived for the National Forests in Oregon and those in Washington.
