The NWCG Standards for Fire Weather Stations provides common standards for weather stations used by the wildland fire agencies to provide weather data observations. Weather data observations are used for a wide variety of applications including calculation of the National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS) indices, fire behavior, burned area fire rehabilitation, planned ignitions, and other land management operations. This document supplements and supersedes the Weather Station Handbook - An Interagency Guide for Wildland Managers, PMS 426-2, with regard to NFDRS standards. The Weather Station Handbook was discontinued by NWCG; however, it may still be in use by units maintaining manual weather stations.
