The Fire Behavior Subcommittee of the National Wildfire Coordinating Group Fire Environment Committee undertook development of this poster to provide a job aid to visually and succinctly tie the fire environment components together in one place to compliment and reinforce fire behavior training and teaching moments. In 1972, Clive Countryman defined the fire environment as the surrounding conditions, influences, and forces that influence or modify fire behavior on the landscape.

Like the Fire Weather Cloud Chart before it, we envision that this poster will have a place in response stations, ready rooms, conference rooms and at training courses to emphasize the importance of the fire environment and the impacts on fire behavior.
