From the Summary (p.272) ... 'The data sets presented in this chapter provide the basis for developing a better understanding of the dynamics of the carbon budget in the North American boreal forest region. For example, in Chapter 23 these data are used by Kasischke and coworkers to estimate direct carbon release from fires in this region. The data sets are useful for examining the spatial distribution of carbon release and also for understanding how this release varies on a yearly basis. In Chapter 25, these data are used to analyze how changes in future climate will influence carbon storage in this region.' © 2000 Springer-Verlag New York, Inc.
