From the text (p.238) ... 'The data sets and collection techniques discussed in this section play a central role in efforts to quantify the effects of fire and climate change on the boreal forest carbon budget. These data sets/techniques provide the baseline information required to apply the understanding of apecific processes developed through the site-specific studies discussed in Section II. These site-specific studies provide the basis for developing landscape and regional-scale models of carbon flux processes, several of which are described in Section IV. The data set/data collection techniques described in this section are needed for providing inputs for many of these models.' © 2000 Springer-Verlag New York, Inc.
