Suppose -- a graphical user interface for the Forest Vegetation Simulator -- simplifies the task of simulating the changes in forest vegetation for a long timespan and a landscape spatial scope. This introduction of Version 1 of Suppose presents the system's goals and the applications in forestry it addresses. It illustrates the process of using Suppose, describes the input and output data, summarizes the program's features including those planned for future versions, and describes how you can get your own copy. Suppose runs under Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and Version 4 of AIX, IBM's version of Unix.
