From the Foreword: 'The tables presented here contain forest fire statistics for the calendar years 1978 and 1979 as reported by all Canadian forest fire control agencies. This publication reestablishes an annual series formerly entitled 'Forest Fire Losses in Canada', begun in the 1950's and discontinued after 1969, except for a comparable report for 1977. In addition, an account of fire statistics for 1961-1966 also appeared, but was compiled in a style only partly comparable with the earlier series. This report completes the statistical record since 1977, and a further report will deal with all the intervening years since 1969. The series will then continue on an annual basis.'
