From the text:'This report describes the establishment of a long term study into the effects of repeated prescribed burning on a young plantation of slash Pine (Pinus elliottii) where two-and four-yearly burning cycles will be tested against unburnt controls in 4 x 3 randomized block design. The condition of the stand prior to the first burning treatment is summarized in terms of growing stock, understory and the fuel complex on an individual plot and block basis. Descriptions of the behavior of the 1969series of burns include information on prevailing meteorological conditions, and soil moisture and time-temperature relationships. Special emphasis is given to fire intensities experienced by individual trees. Information is then given on growth characteristics following the first burning treatment and on the behavior of the second series of burning treatments in 1971.'
