Alternatives to the use of prescribed fire includes mechanical treatments, herbicides, silvicultural treatments and closer utilization. As in the use of fire the alternative methods have their limitations as well as advantages. A careful analysis of each situation should be made to select the most practical and environmentally sound treatments.
