From the text... 'Governments own most of our forest and because of the lumberjacks* work they have gathered great armsful of gold. Governments should not be responsible for forest management because with every political change policy vacillates. We have never had a consistent forest management policy except maybe, "Well manage to cut her down somehow.”, or, "What we can*t manage to cut we*ll burn or turn into a wilderness area or something.” The Ontario Forest Management Agreements and the occasional similar scheme look promising. Let*s try them for at least 50 years before thinking of trying another tack.' The Canadian Institute of Forestry/Institut forestier du Canada. Abstract reproduced by permission.
