From the text ... 'The adaptation to South African conditions of fire-danger rating and fire-behaviour prediction systems, based on Rothermel's fire model, continued. Emphasis this year fell onto technology transfer Three courses were held for this purpose. The fire-danger rating system has been adopted on a trial basis by managers in the Western Cape, Southern Cape and Tsitsikamma forestry regions, and preliminary indications are that fire-danger rating will assist managers in predicting and preparing for, or preventing the occurrence of large wildfires. A full assessment of these trials will be carried out at the end of the 1986/87 fire season.'
