Description

The National Association of State Foresters fully supports the Federal Wildland Fire Management Policy and stands ready to work with our federal partners to implement the recommendations. It is unfortunate, however, that states couldn't have been directly involved in development of the plan, and more importantly in the 'translation' of the plan into action items for implementation. Had we been involved from the beginning, we may have been able to avoid some of the concerns and misunderstandings that resulted from the report. Implementation of this plan is one of the most important things that the national fire community has ever attempted. It is clear that states, tribes, and local government will be heavily involved in the implementation. Many of the action items ask for our help, specifically through The National Wildfire Coordinating Group and the Geographic Area Coordinating Groups. I hope we will not allow ourselves to fall short. © by the Society of American Foresters, Bethesda MD. Abstract reproduced by permission.
