An analysis of macroscopic charcoal and magnetic susceptibility in lake sediment cores from Little Lake, Oregon, was used to reconstruct the fire history of the last 9,000 years. A comparison of these data with a pollen record from the site helped clarify the relation among fire, vegetation, and climate changes during the Holocene.
