Obstacles to public acceptance of prescribed fire include misunderstanding of fire in forest ecosystems, concerned risk to life and property and assumed adverse effects on scenic and recreation values. Increased appreciation of the ecological, safety (fuel reduction) and longterm aesthetic benefits of prescribed fire could help to solidify public support.
